Okul Öncesi Dönemde Çok Kültürlü Eğitim Uygulamaları Çalışmalarının İncelenmesi

Abstract

ÖZ: Bu araştırma, küreselleşme, çok kültürlülük, çok kültürlü eğitim kavramları temel alınarak, çok kültürlü okul öncesi eğitimin önemini ve etkilerinin araştırıldığı çalışmaların sonuçlarını değerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Küreselleşme, günlük hayatta hemen hemen her konuda uluslararası bağ oluşmasını sağlamaktadır. Bu bağlamda, toplumların kültürleri sadece kendi sınırları içinde nüfuz etmekle kalmamıştır. Çok kültürlülük kavramı, birçok farklı topluluk ve geçmişten gelen insanların kültürlerinin bir arada bulunması ve bu durumun ayrımcılıktan ve tekile indirgenmesinden uzak, eşit ve adil bir ortamda süregelmelerinin sağlanmasıdır. Çok kültürlü eğitim de bu bağlamda, ayrımcılık ve ön yargıdan uzak bir şekilde, bireysel ve/veya topluluksal kültür kaybını engellemeye, farklı kültürleri tek bir çatı altında bütünleştirmekten ziyade her birini olduğu gibi kabul etme, farklı görmeme amacı güden, topluluktan ziyade toplumun geneline fayda sağlamaya uğraşan, vatandaşları birleştiren bir eğitim sistemi olarak kabul edilmiştir. Bu araştırma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden biri olan doküman incelemesi desenine dayalı bir araştırmadır. Konu ile ilgili alanyazında yer alan çalışmalar incelenmiş ve elde edilen veriye içerik analizi uygulanmıştır. İçerik analizinin temelinde yapılan işlem, birbirine benzeyen verileri belirli kavramlar ve temalar çerçevesinde bir araya getirmek ve bunları okuyucunun anlayabileceği bir biçimde düzenleyerek yorumlamaktır. Bu bağlamda araştırma; kültür, çok kültürlülük, eğitimin rolü, çok kültürlülüğe ilişkin okul öncesi eğitimin güncel durumu, okul öncesi eğitimin sosyal davranışlar üzerine etkisi, okul öncesi dönemde çok kültürlü eğitimi özendirme ve destekleme yolları, öğretmen yetkinliği, eğitim medyası ve çok kültürlü eğitim programı türleri alt başlıklarında toparlanmıştır. Araştırmada, çok kültürlü eğitim ile ilgili 2000–2018 yılları arasında yayımlanmış yazılı kaynaklar araştırmanın evrenini oluştururken, yine aynı tarihlerdeki okul öncesi dönemde çok kültürlü eğitim uygulamaları ile ilgili çalışmalar bu araştırmanın örneklemini oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın sonuçları, çok kültürlü eğitimin okul öncesi dönemde çok yüksek düzeyde önem taşıdığı, bireyin, daha açık fikirli, ön yargıdan uzak, kendine ve parçası olduğu topluma çok daha yararlı bir birey olarak gelişmesinin temelini oluşturduğu yönündedir. Çok kültürlülüğün, eğitim aracılığıyla sosyal bir değişim yarattığı, geçmişe ve hatta günümüze kıyasla çok daha iyi bir geleceğe yatırım olduğu, eğitim ve öğretimin çok kültürlülüğe yaklaşımında köklü bir reforma ihtiyaç duyduğu, çocuklara gerçek değerlerin öğretilmesinin toplumu olumlu yolda ilerleteceği bulgularına ulaşılmıştır. Çok kültürlü eğitim sistemlerinin, yüksek öğretim seviyelerinde de uygulanması ve etkilerinin izleme çalışmaları ile desteklenmesi gerektiği sonuçlarına ulaşılmıştır. The aim of this study is to research and evaluate the effects and importance of multicultural education system in preschools, based on the values of globalization, multiculturalism and multicultural education. Globalisation provides an international bond on almost every level of daily life. In this regard, the cultures of communities are not restricted to influence just their surroundings, but those that are out of their boundaries. The notion of multiculturalism allows multiple cultures from different communities and backgrounds to coexist with one another without any prejudice or discrimination, not forced to intertwine, in an equal and just medium. Multicultural education in this context is regarded as one that strives to raise citizens who aim to serve for the betterment of the society rather than just their communities, to stray from discrimination and prejudice, to keep personal and/or community based cultures free of outside influence by accepting them for what they are, rather than trying to mold them as one, yet bring in the citizens together under common understanding towards one another. Highlighting the effects of these factors in regards to social and other elements on Turkey and TRNC’s preschool education and determining where they lack and provide the possible reforms needed to resolve said issues is the purpose of this study. This study utilises the literature review type of qualitative research method. The literature related to the subject(s) has been examined and the data acquired has been analysed for content. The content analysis is done in order to comprise data in groups of similar notions and themes, and to construe them in a way that is comprehensible by the reader. In this regards, the research is split into sub clauses, these are as follows; culture, multiculturalism, the role of education, the role of preschool education, the current status of preschool education, the effects of preschool education on social behaviour, ways to incentivise multicultural education in preschool education, teacher’s expertise, educational media, types of multicultural education programs. The universe of this study comprises of scholarly articles and literary medium on the topic of multicultural education, while those on the topic of multicultural educational practices in preschool education form the sample of it. The notions reached by this research is that, multicultural education plays exceptionally high level of importance in preschool education, as it results in the development for the foundation of a more open minded, less prejudiced individual that is much more beneficial to both the society that they are a part of and themselves. It is also agreed upon that multiculturalism’s effect through education does create a social change as it is an investment for a better future compared to the past and even current times, and that there needs to be a reform in the way education and teaching behaves towards multiculturalism, as having children taught factual values and morals will result in a better path for the society as a whole. We are of the opinion that having multiculturalist education systems implemented in higher education and observing the results of its effects will result in shedding light on the longevity and effects of the subjects discussed within the thesis.
