Objective: The aim of thid study was to evaluate life quality and the nutritional status of the students at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS).
Metarials and methods: This study was conducted with 293 volunteer students chosen by the technique of stratified sampling from each department of the EMU FHS. A questionnaire containing general information, dietary habits, physical activity, anthropometric measurements, 24-hour food records and Quality of Life Questionnaire-36 (SF-36) has been administered using face to face interview. Body weight, height, waist and hip circumference of the students were measured with a digital weighing scale and a stretch tape.
Results: In this study, based on body mass index (BMI) classification 18.8%, 1.7% and 8.2% of students were overweight, obese, underweight, respectively. Energy intake and carbohydrate intake are inadequate 79,52% and 91.81% of the students, respectively. Protein intake was inadequate 26,62% and excessive 45.39% of the students and fat intake is excessive 69,97% of the students. Positive and weak relation was observed between students‟ body weight, height, waist circumference and hip circumference values and their pain scores (p<0.05). According to the students‟ BMI classification, there is no statistically significant difference between their physical functioning, physical role limitations, emotional role limitations, vitality, mental health, social functioning, pain and general health perception scores in SF-36 (p>0,05) .
Conclusions: Energy, macronutrient and many micronutrient intake of students in the study is inadequate. Students had the highest score from physical
function while the lowest scores were obtained from the vitality parameter in SF-36. This result may be related to the students‟ inadequate and unbalanced nutrition. Therefore, improving facilities of cafeteria, restaurant and cafe for students to access healthy foods, raising awareness of the students on healthy choices, managing time between social activities and studies can contribute students to improve their quality of life.

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, Doğu Akdeniz Üniversitesi Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi‟nde öğrenim gören öğrencilerin beslenme durumları ve yaşam kalitelerinin değerlendirilmesidir.
Gereç ve yöntem: Bu araştırma, Doğu Akdeniz Üniversitesi Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi‟nde bölümlere göre tabakalı örneklem seçim tekniğiyle seçilen 293 gönüllü öğrenciyle yürütülmüştür. Veriler, teke tek görüşme veri toplama tekniğiyle genel bilgiler, beslenme alışkanlıkları, fiziksel aktivite, antropometrik ölçümler, 24 saatlik besin tüketim kaydı ve Yaşam Kalitesi Ölçeği-36 (SF-36)‟yı içeren bir anket uygulanmıştır. Öğrencilerin vücut ağırlığı, boy, bel ve kalça çevresi ölçümleri için dijital bir tartı ve esnemeyen mezura kullanılmıştır.
Bulgular: Bu çalışmada, öğrencilerin beden kütle indeksi (BKİ) sınıflamasına göre % 18,8‟i kilolu, % 1,7‟si obez, % 8,2‟sinin zayıf olduğu belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin % 79,52‟sinin enerji, % 91,81‟inin karbonhidrat alımı yetersizdir. Protein alımı ise öğrencilerin % 26,62‟sinde yetersiz, % 45,39‟u aşırı ve yağ alımı % 69,97‟sinde aşırıdır. Öğrencilerin vücut ağırlığı, boy uzunluğu, bel çevresi ve kalça çevresi değerleri ile ağrı puanları arasında pozitif yönlü ve zayıf kuvvetli ilişki saptanmıştır (p<0,05). Öğrencilerin BKİ sınıflarına göre SF-36 ölçeğinde yer alan fiziksel fonksiyon, fiziksel rol kısıtlılığı, emosyonel rol kısıtlılığı, vitalite, ruh sağlığı, sosyal işlevsellik, ağrı ve genel sağlık algısı puanları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark olmadığı saptanmıştır (p>0,05).
Sonuçlar: Araştırmaya alınan öğrencilerin enerji, makro besin ögeleri ve birçok mikro besin ögesi alım miktarları yetersizdir. Öğrenciler, SF-36‟dan en yüksek puanı fiziksel fonksiyon, en düşük puanı ise vitalite parametresinden
almıştır. Bu sonuç öğrencilerin yetersiz ve dengesiz beslenmeleriyle ilgili olabilir. Bu nedenle öğrencilerin daha sağlıklı besinlere ulaşabileceği yemekhane, restoran ve kafeterya olanakları geliştirilmesi ve öğrencilerin sağlıklı seçimler konusunda bilinçlendirilmesi, sosyal etkinlik ve çalışmalara ayrılan zamanın dengelenmesi öğrencilerin yaşam kalitelerini arttırabilmelerine katkı sağlayabilir.
