Jalilabad District is located at the south part of the Republic Of Azerbaijan. Jalilabad was named after a prominent writer Jalil Mammadguluzadeh, who was born in the year 1967 at Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The largest surface area amongst the southern regions belongs to Jalilabad.
Folklore is the unwritten history of primitive times. One of the scientific tasks of folklore is to determine the stages of development of the people and to protect the solid and viable things in the tradition of the people.
Differently than previous researchers, I took a step forward to reach to future generations by the people living in and around Jalilabad have been able to examine the examples of folk culture, idioms, folk dances, folk medicine and other folkloric elements that have transmitted orally from one generation to another for thousands of years.
A large part of this research was compiled from the memories of people living in both Jalilabad District and different villages of this district.
While collecting folkloric elements, the information given by the source persons was used during the research.
Some folklore samples within Turkey represents similarity with many folklore examples in some districts of Jalilabad which are still observed nowadays. The aim of this study is to compare similar examples and reveal that both cultures have the same folkloric elements.
In our study, the art of rhetoric, weddings and festivals traditions, as well as folk medicine, folk dances, mania and laments of the people living in and around Jalilabad district were discussed. In addition, prayers, curses, ancestor words and
phrases were collected from the source persons. Information received from people living in the district and in the different villages of the district has never been published before.
Folklore samples in this study were examined with similar and different aspects with folklore samples in other provinces and districts.
While intertwining with the people of this district and its nearby villages, which are located at the border with a South Azerbaijan, it is obvious that they know how to live a life full of peace and love. It is highly notable that this culture and also a philosophy of being humanistic is very well comprehended not only by the seniors but also by the younger generation in every village and in every place that i set my foot on.

Celilabad İlçe`si Azerbaycan devleti sınırlarının güney kısmında yerleşiyor. Celilabad`a 1967 senesinde Azerbaycan`ın Nahçivan muhtar devletinde doğmuş ünlü yazar Celil Memmedguluzade`nin adı verilmiştir. Celilabad güney ilçeleri arasında en büyük araziye sahiptir.
Halkbilim, ilkel zamanların yazılmamış tarihidir. Halkbilimin ilmi görevlerinden biri halkın gelişme evrelerini saptaması ve halkın geleneğinde sağlam ve yaşayabilmesi gereken şeylerin korunmasına çalışmasıdır.
Celilabad ilçesi ve çevresinde yaşayan halkın bin yıllardan bu yana ağızdan ağıza, dilden dile anlatılan ve geçerliliğini yitirmeyen halk kültürü, deyimleri, halk oyunları, halk hekimliği ve diğer folklor örneklerini bizden önceki araştırmacılardan farklı olarak daha geniş ve verimli bir şekilde inceleyip, gelecek nesillere ulaşabilmek için bir araştırma başlattık.
Bu araştırmanın büyük bir kısmı hem Celilabad İlçesinde, hem de ilçenin farklı köylerinde yaşayan insanların hafızalarından derlenmiştir.
Folklorik öğeleri toplarken araştırma sırasında kaynak kişilerin verdiği bilgiler kullanılmıştır.
Türkiye`de olan bazı folklor örnekleri ile Celilabad ilçesinde de günümüzde hala sürdürülmekte olan bir çok folklor örnekleri benzerlik teşkil etmektedir. Bu çalışmanı yapmakta amaç benzerlik teşkil eden örnekleri karşılaştırarak her iki kültürün aynı folklorik öğelere sahip olduğunu ortaya çıkarmaktır.
İncelememizde Celilabad ilçesi ve çevresinde yaşayan halkın söz sanatı, düyün ve bayram gelenekleri, aynı zamanda halk hekimliği, halk oyunları, mani ve ağıtları ele alınmıştır. Bunun yanı sıra dualar, beddular, ata sözleri ve deyimler de
kaynak kişilerden derlenip toplanmıştır. İlçede ve ilçe`nin farlı köylerinde yaşayan kişilerden alınan bilgiler daha önce hiçbir yerde yayınlanmamıştır.
Bu çalışmada yer alan folklor örnekleri, diğer il ve ilçelerdeki folklor örnekleri ile benzer ve farklı taraflarıyla incelenmiştir.
Güney Azerbaycanla sınırı olan bu ilçe`de ve derleme yapılan köylerde bir birilerine kucak açmayı, sevgi ve saygı içerisinde yaşamayı bilen halkla iç içe girdikçe, sohbet ettikçe sadece yaşlılarda değil, gençlerde bile o kültürü nasıl kavradıkları, yani insan olmanın ne demek olması felsefesini atılan her adımda, girilen her köyde, misafiri olunan her evde en yüksek şekilde görmek mümkün.
