This study aimed to evaluate the body perception, the diet quality, the antropometric measurements of the students who are attending a professional dance training programme at a university and the students who are not getting trained in this field professionally. The study was carried out with the volunteers aged 18 years or older; 25 of which were the students enrolled in the department of dance at a university, 25 of which were the students enrolled in a dance club and 25 of which were the university students who are not dancing or doing any other kind of sports activities. Themethods of face to face interview and questionnaire were applied. The questionnarie was involved general information about the participants, thescales of The Dutch Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (DEBQ) and the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) were used along with a questionnaire form based on the retrospective three-day food consumption records of the participants. A number of antropometric measurements were also performed using its own methods appropriately. There was no statistically significant difference between the energy intake and nutritional elements consumption of the students enrolled in the department of dance the students enrolled in a dance club and the ones taking part in the sedentary group. It was identified that the students obtained approximately 26,77±13,20 points from DEBQ-the Emotional Eating subscale, 23,39±9,13points from DEBQ-the Restrained Eating subscale, 28,09±6,68 points from DEBQ-External Eating subscale. There was no statistically significant difference with respect to the age and the sex among the DEBQ points of thestudents enrolled in the department of dance, enrolled
in a dance club and taking part in the sedentary group. It was identified that the students attained approximately 71,24±31,19 points from the BSQ. There was no statistically difference with respect to the age and the sex among the BSQ points of the students enrolled in the department of dance, enrolled in a dance club and taking part in the sedentary group. It was found out that the students attained approximately 74,59±6,86 points from the HEI (Healthy Eating Index) and the HEI points attained by the students enrolled in the department of dance, enrolled in a dance club and taking part in the sedentary group showed no statistically significant difference. In conclusion, while there was no statistically significant difference with respect to eating behaviour, body perception, diet quality between the students who are enrolled in the department of dance (getting trained professionally) at a university and the students who are not getting trained in this field professionally, it has been identified that there is a difference between their antropometric measurements and body compositions. All in all, it would be beneficial to design new studies taking the factors such as geographical location, the curriculumof dance department into consideration as they may affect the risk of eating disorders, body perception and diet quality. ÖZ: Bu çalışmanın amacı profesyonel olarak dans eğitimi alan ve almayan öğrencilerin beden algısı, diyet kalitesi ve antropometrik ölçümlerinin değerlendirilmesidir. Bu çalışma 18 yaş ve üzeri olan gönüllü; 25 dans bölümü öğrencisi, 25 dans topluluğu öğrencisi ve 25 dans ve diğer spor faaliyetlerinde bulunmayan üniversite öğrencisi ile yürütülmüştür. Teke tek görüşme ve anket teknikleriyle öğrencilerin genel bilgileri, antropometrik ölçümleri alınmış ayrıca Hollanda yeme davranışı anketi (DEBQ), beden şekli anketi (BSQ) ve Sağlıklı yeme indeksi (SYİ) uygulanmış olup üç günlük besin tüketim kayıtları alınmıştır. Dans bölümünde, dans topluluğunda ve sedanter grupta yer alan öğrencilerin enerji alım ve besin öğeleri tüketimlerinin arasında istatistiksel bir fark bulunmamştır. Öğrencilerin DEBQ-duygusal yeme alt boyutundan ortalama 26,77±13,20 puan, DEBQ-kısıtlayıcı yeme alt boyutundan ortalama 23,39±9,13 puan DEBQ-dışsal yeme alt boyutundan ortalama 28,09±6,68 puan aldıkları saptanmıştır. DEBQ puanlarının dans eğitmi alan, dans topluluğu ve sedanter grupları arasında yaş ve cinsiyete göre istatistiksel olarak bir fark bulunmamıştır (p>0,05). Öğrencilerde BSQ’dan ortalama 71,24±31,19 puan aldıkları saptanmıştır. BSQ puanlarının dans eğitmi alan, dans topluluğu ve sedanter grupları arasında yaş ve cinsiyete bakıldığında istatistiksel bir fark bulunmamıştır (p>0,05). SYİ puanlarına göre dans eğitmi alan, dans topluluğu ve sedanter grupları arasında yaş ve cinsiyete bakıldığında istatistiksel bir fark bulunmamıştır (p>0,05). Sonuç olarak dans eğitimi alan ve almayan öğrencilerinin yeme davranış bozukluğu riski, beden algısı ve diyet kaliteleri arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı
fark bulunmamıştır. Ancak sedanter grupta bulunan kadın öğrencilerin vücut ağırlıkları ve vücut yağ kütlesi değerlerinin dans bölümü ve dans topluluğunda yer alan kadın öğrencilere göre daha yüksek olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Sonuç olarak coğrafi konum, dans bölümü eğitim müfredatı gibi faktörler yeme davranış bozukluğu riski, beden algısı ve diyet kalitesini etkileyebileceğinden bu faktörleri dikkate alarak yeni çalışmaların planlanması yararlı olabilir.
