The aim of this study is to compare the proprioceptive sensory, respiratory muscle strenght, respiratory muscle endurance and physical fitness levels of dancers licensed by Turkish Cypriot Folk Dance Federation and sedentary healthy individuals.
A total of 129 subjects including 65 dancers and 64 healthy sedantary who are aged 18-35 years were included in this study at Eastern Mediternean University, Faculty of Health Siences, Cardiopulmonary and Sports Injuries Rehabilitation Laboratory. Sociodemographic information and exercise habits of all individuals included in the study were questioned. Dance backgrounds and training characteristics of the dancers were recorded. Physical fitness parameters (body composition, flexibility, anaerobic power, aerobic capacity, muscle strength, balance), proprioceptive senses (joint position sense and kinaesthesia) and respiratory muscle strength, respiratory muscle endurance of all individuals were evaluated. Body weight, total body fat mass (kilogram/ kg), total body fat % ratio, total body muscle mass (kg), total body muscle mass % ratio, basal metabolic rate, body mass index were evaluated within the scope of body composition assessment. Flexibility was assessed by sit-reach; aerobic capacity by 20 meter (m) shuttle run test, anaerobic power by vertical jump test; muscle strength by isokinetic dynamometer; balance by computer assisted balance device. 45º and 60º angles were selected for joint position sense then and the measurements were measured with an isokinetic dynamometer. Respiratory muscle strength was evaluated by mouth pressure as inspiratory and expiratory muscle strength, respiratory muscle endurance by spirometer.
When the body composition, flexibility, aerobic capacity, muscle strength, balance measurement results of dancers and sedentary individuals were compared, no statistically significant difference (p>0,05) was observed except for anaerobic power. There was a statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of anaerobic power (p<0,05). The results of proprioceptive measurements were similar in both groups (p>0,05). There were significant differences between the two groups in terms of respiratory muscle strenght and respiratory muscle endurance percentage measurement results (p<0,05).
As a result of the study, it is seen that traditional folk dance contributes to respiratory muscle development but it is not sufficient to increase proprioceptive sensory and physical fitness components without a special training program when compared with other dance types.

Bu araştırmanın amacı Kıbrıs Türk Halk Dansları Federasyonu (KTHDF) lisansına sahip dansçılar ile sedanter bireylerin propriyoseptif duyu, solunum kas kuvveti, solunum kas enduransı ve fiziksel uygunluk düzeylerini karşılaştırmaktır.
Doğu Akdeniz Üniversitesi, Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi, Kardiyopulmoner ve Spor Yaralanmaları Rehabilitasyon Laboratuvarında gerçekleştirilen araştırmaya, 18-35 yaş arası gönüllü 65 dansçı ve 64 sağlıklı sedanter olmak üzere toplam 129 birey dahil edildi. Çalışmaya dahil edilen tüm bireylerin sosyodemografik bilgileri ve egzersiz alışkanlıkları sorgulandı. Dansçıların dans özgeçmişleri ve antrenman özellikleri kaydedildi. Tüm bireylerin fiziksel uygunluk parametreleri (vücut kompozisyonu, esneklik, anaerobik güç, aerobik kapasite, kas kuvveti, denge), propriyoseptif duyu (eklem pozisyon duyusu ve kinestezi), solunum kas kuvveti, solunum kas enduransı değerlendirildi. Vücut kompozisyonu vücut ağırlığı, toplam vücut yağ kütlesi (kilogram/ kg), toplam vücut yağ % oranı, toplam vücut kas kütlesi (kg), toplam vücut kas kütle % oranı, bazal metabolizma hızı, vücut kütle indeksi (VKİ) kapsamında değerlendirildi. Esneklik otur-uzan, aerobik kapasite 20 metre (m) mekik koşu testi, anaerobik güç dikey sıçrama testi, kas kuvveti izokinetik dinamometre, dinamik denge bilgisayar destekli denge cihazı kullanılarak değerlendirildi. Eklem pozisyon duyusu için 45º ve 60º açılar seçildi ve izokinetik dinamometre cihazı ile ölçümler gerçekleştirildi. Solunum kas kuvveti inspiratuar ve ekspiratuar kas kuvveti olarak ağız içi basınç ölçer ile, solunum kas enduransı ise spirometre ile değerlendirildi.
Dansçılar ve sedanter bireylerin vücut kompozisyonu, esneklik, aerobik kapasite, kas kuvveti, denge ölçüm sonuçları karşılaştırıldığında anaerobik güç haricinde (p<0,05) istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark görülmedi (p>0,05). Propriyoseptif duyu ölçüm sonuçları her iki grubun birbirine benzerdir (p>0,05). Solunum kas kuvveti ve solunum kas enduransı % ölçüm sonuç değerleri açısından ise her iki grup arasında anlamlı fark vardır (p<0, 05).
Çalışmanın sonucunda geleneksel halk danslarının solunum kas gelişimine katkı sağladığı, ancak diğer dans türleriyle karşılaştırıldığında özel bir eğitim programı olmaksızın propriyoseptif duyu ve fiziksel uygunluk bileşenlerini arttırmada yeterli olmadığı görülmektedir.
