Children's books are effective tools in the developmental, cognitive, and cognitive development of children. In this process, books should be able to integrate education and training function. In order to fulfill this task, children's books should be equipped with educational and structural features. Children's books are a whole with educational principles on which they are based both internal and external characteristics. The integrity and coherence of these principles and features are the most fundamental factor in helping to determine the quality of children's books. For this reason, knowing the characteristics of children's books will guide the educators in selecting books for children. It is important to determine the opinions of preschool teachers who have a primary impact on the formation of book centers and the execution of language activities in schools. The aim of this study is to determine the criteria that preschool teachers take into consideration when selecting children's books and to determine the variables that may be related to these criteria. For this purpose, in the 2017-2018 academic year, a questionnaire was applied to the teachers working in 3-6 age group in the kindergartens of state and private schools and kindergartens operated by local administrations in the KKTC Ministry of Education and Culture in Nicosia, Famagusta and Girne districts.
According to the findings of the research, the criteria that teachers have taken into consideration in the selection of children's book is differentiate significantly according to education on children's literature, the age of the children, self-sufficiency about choosing the books according to childrens’ age, the university of graduation, the age group of students and the number of students in the class. On the other hand, it was determined that there was no signifi can’t according to the criteria
taken into consideration in the selection of children's books, gender, graduation degree, need for education for appropriate book selection, age and seniority in the profession.

Çocuk kitapları, çocukların devinişsel, duyuşsal ve bilişsel gelişim sürecinde etkili araçlar olup; bu süreçte kitapların, eğitim ve öğretim işlevini de bütünleyebilmesi gerekmektedir. Bu görevi yerine getirebilmek için çocuk kitapları, eğitsel ve yapısal özellikler ile donatılmalıdır. Çocuk kitapları, dayandığı eğitsel ilkeler ve hem iç hem de dış yapı özellikleri ile bir bütün halindedir. Bu ilke ve özelliklerin birbirleri ile bütünselliği ve tutarlılığı, çocuk kitaplarının niteliğinin belirlenmesine yardımcı olan en temel etmendir. Bu sebeple, çocuk kitaplarının özelliklerinin bilinmesi, çocuklar için kitap seçiminde eğitimcilere kılavuzluk edecektir. Özellikle okullarda kitap merkezlerinin oluşturulmasında ve dil etkinliklerinin yürütülmesinde öncelikli etkisi olan okul öncesi öğretmenlerinin bu konudaki görüşlerinin belirlenmesi önemlidir. Bu noktadan hareketle hazırlanan araştırmada okul öncesi öğretmenlerinin çocuk kitaplarını seçerken dikkate aldıkları ölçütlerin belirlenmesi ve bu ölçütler ile ilişkili olabilecek değişkenlerin ortaya koyulmasıdır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda 2017-2018 Eğitim-Öğretim yılında, Lefkoşa, Gazimağusa ve Girne ilçelerinde bulunan KKTC Milli Eğitim ve Kültür Bakanlığına bağlı, devlet ve özel okulların anasınıfları ile yerel yönetimlerce işletilen anaokullarında, 3-6 yaş grubunda görev yapan öğretmenlere anket uygulanmıştır.
Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre öğretmenlerin çocuk kitabı seçiminde dikkate aldığı ölçütler; çocuk edebiyatı ile ilgili eğitim alma durumu, çocukların yaşına göre kitap seçebilme konusunda kendini yeterli görme, mezun olunan üniversite, mezun olunan bölüm, çalışılan yaş grubu ve sınıftaki öğrenci sayısına göre farklılaşmaktadır. Diğer taraftan çocuk kitabı seçiminde dikkate alınan ölçütlerde cinsiyet, lisansüstü eğitim alma durumu, uygun kitap seçimi konusunda
eğitime ihtiyaç duyma, yaş ve meslekteki kıdem yılına göre anlamlı farklılık olmadığı tespit edilmiştir.
