This reserch; It aims to examine the news about children, children's rights and childhood images in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus print media. Sub-goals were determined in accordance with the main purpose of the research. These; To evaluate according to which images children are presented in the analyzed news, the situation in which they are qualified, the information they are exposed, the categories of rights they are in, and their childhood images. In the research, among qualitative research designs; case study pattern was used. The sample of the research; It is creates 8 newspapers that are published daily in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and do not have a political orientation. Document analysis method was used in the examination of newspapers. News from the news archives on the websites of the newspapers with the keywords "Child and Children's Rights" from 01.01.2019 to 01.01.2020 have been recorded. The recorded newspaper news were collected systematically with the "Newspaper News Coding Form" created by the researcher. It was arranged by taking the opinions of 7 experts knowledgeable in the field of "Newspaper News Coding Form". For the reliability of the form; the researcher and the thesis supervisor analyzed the randomly selected news in different places according to the "Newspaper News Coding Form", in parallel with each other. According to the findings of the research; In the examined newspapers, the most forensic news was found. As a result of the research; It has been determined that children are generally presented with victim and victim representations in negative situations such as abuse, neglect and accident. In the study, it was found that national news covered more than international news. In addition, it was revealed that children were mostly presented positively in news content. It has been determined that the
personal information of children is not included in most of the news and this issue is important. It has been concluded that the right to participate in the Convention on the Rights of the Child is ignored in most news and children do not participate in the news content that concerns them. There has been a lot of negative news about children's rights to protection. Also, there were plenty of news about children's developmental rights. According to their childhood images, it has been determined that children are mostly presented with "innocent" and "victim" images in newspaper articles. The results were discussed with the support of the literature, and the study; It ended with suggestions to media professionals, scientists and all individuals in the society.

ÖZ: Bu araştırma; Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti yazılı basınında çocuk içerikli gazete haberlerini, çocuk hakları ve çocukluk imajları doğrultusunda incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmanın temel amacına uygun olarak alt amaçlar belirlenmiştir. Bunlar; incelenen haberlerde, çocukların hangi imajlar ile sunulduğunu, nitelendikleri durumu, teşhir edilen bilgilerini, yer aldıkları hak kategorilerini, çocukluk imajlarına göre değerlendirmektir. Araştırmada, nitel araştırma desenlerinden; durum çalışması deseni kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini; Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti’nde günlük olarak yayınlanan ve siyasi bir yönelime sahip olmayan 8 gazete oluşturmaktadır. Gazetelerin incelenmesinde doküman inceleme yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Gazetelerin internet sitelerindeki haber arşivlerinden ‘Çocuk ve Çocuk Hakları’ anahtar kelimeleri ile 01.01.2019 tarihinden 01.01.2020 tarihine kadar olan haberler; kayıt altına alınmıştır. Kayıt altına alınan gazete haberleri, araştırmacı tarafından oluşturulan ‘Gazete Haberleri Kodlama Formu’ ile sistematik bir şekilde toplanmıştır. ‘Gazete Haberi Kodlama Formu’ alanında bilgili 7 uzmanın görüşleri alınarak düzenlenmiştir. Formun güvenirliği için; araştırmacı ve tez danışmanının birbirlerine paralel olarak, farklı mekânlarda, rastgele seçilen haberleri ‘Gazete Haberi Kodlama Formuna’ göre analiz etmiştir. Verilerin analizinde, içerik analizi ve çocukluk imajlarının analizinde betimsel analiz yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın bulgularına göre; incelenen gazetelerde en fazla adli türdeki haberler bulunmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda; çocukların, istismar, ihmal ve kaza gibi olumsuz durumlarda genellikle mağdur ve kurban temsilleri ile sunuldukları saptanmıştır. Araştırmada, ulusal haberlere uluslararası haberlerden daha fazla yer verildiği bulunmuştur. Ayrıca çocukların haber içeriklerinde
çoğunlukla olumlu şekilde sunuldukları ortaya çıkmıştır. Haberlerin çoğunda çocukların kişisel bilgilerine yer verilmediği ve bu konunun önemsendiği saptanmıştır. Çocuk Hakları Sözleşmesi’nde yer alan katılım hakkının, çoğu haberde görmezden gelindiği ve çocukların kendilerini ilgilendiren haber içeriklerine katılımlarının olmadığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Çocukların korunma haklarına yönelik çok fazla olumsuz haber elde edilmiştir. Ayrıca çocukların gelişimsel haklarını içeren haberler yüksek oranda bulunmuştur. Çocukluk imajlarına göre çocukların gazete haberlerinde en fazla ‘masum’ ve ‘kurban’ imajları ile sunuldukları saptanmıştır. Bulgular, literatür desteği ile tartışılarak, çalışma; medya çalışanlarına, bilim insanlarına ve toplumdaki bütün bireylere öneriler ile son bulmuştur.
