ÖZ:Bu araştırmanın amacı ergenlerin sosyal medya kullanımının, sosyal görünüş
kaygı düzeyi ve kontrol alanı algıları üzerinde yordayıcı etkisinin incelenmesidir.
Araştırmanın evreni Gazimağusa ve İskele ilçesinde yer alan liselerde eğitim gören
ergenler, örneklemi ise 2020 – 2021 Akademik yılında Gazimağusa ve İskele
ilçesindeki liselerde eğitim gören ergenlerden rastgele seçilmiştir. Veri toplama
sürecinde; demokratik bilgi formu ile öğrencilerin; cinsiyeti, eğitim gördüğü lise, okul
türü, anne ve baba eğitim durumu, kullanılan sosyal medya paylaşım araçları ile
sıklıkları, fotoğrafları paylaşmadan önce shop uygulama durumu fotoğrafları
paylaşmadan önce etrafındakilerin fikrine başvurma durumu gibi demografik
bilgilerin toplandığı Kişisel Bilgi Formu kullanılmıştır. Ergenlerin sosyal görünüş
kaygı düzeyini ölçmek için ‘Sosyal Görünüş Kaygısı Ölçeği (SGKÖ)’ kullanılmıştır.
Kontrol Alanı Algılarının yönelimini ölçmek için ‘Kontrol Odağı Ölçeği’
kullanılmıştır.
Ölçekler ile toplanan veriler bilgisayar ortamına aktarılmış, analiz edilebilmesi
için SPSS 22 paket programı kullanılmıştır. Betimsel istatistik testlleri; Frekans,
Standart hata, yüzdelik dağılımları, aritmetik ortalama ve strandart sapma değerlerine
bakılmıştır. Testler aracılığı ile veriler incelenmiş, basıklık ve çarpıklık değerleri,
verilerin homojenliği incelenmiştir. Homojen bir dağılım elde elilemediğinden nonparametrik testler ile analize devam edilmiştir. Ergenlerde sosyal medya kullanımının,
sosyal görünüş kaygısı ve kontrol alanı algılarını yordayıcı etkisine bakmak için
lojistik Binary Regresyon analizi yapılmıştır. Sosyal görünüş kaygısı ile kontrol alanı
algısı arasında ilişkiyi incelemek için Spearman korelasyon testi uygulanmıştır.
Bağımlı değişkenler üzerinde bağımsız değişkenlerin farklılık yaratıp yaratmadığını
incelemek için; 2 kategorili değişkenlerde Mann Whitney U, 2 den fazla kategorisi
olan değişkenlerde ise Kruskal - Wallis analizi uygulanmıştır.
Araştırma bulgularına göre ergenlerde sosyal medya kullanımı sosyal görünüş
kaygısını ve kontrol alanı algısını yordamaktadır. Kontrol alanı algıları düzeyleri
arttıkça sosyal görünüş kaygı düzeyleri de arttığı, Ergenlerin sosyal medya kullanımın
yüksek oluğunu ve kullanan kişilerin yetkin olduğu, sosyal görünüş kaygısının
ortalama bir düzeyde olduğu, yüksek miktarda dış kontrol alanı algısına sahip oldukları
sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Bunun yanında sosyal medyada geçirdikleri süre artıkça sosyal
görünüş kaygısının ve dış kontrol algısının arttığı, fotoğraf yüklemeden önce shop
uygulayan kişilerin uygulamayan kişilere kıyasla sosyal görünüş kaygısının ve dış
kontrol algısının daha fazla olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

The aim of this study is to examine the predictive effect of adolescents' use of
social media based on their social appearance anxiety levels and their perception of
control area. The research consisted of randomly selected adolescents studying at high
schools in Famagusta and Iskele districts in the 2020-2021 academic year. In the data
collection process; a personal information form was used to collect demographic
information such as gender, high school, school type, mother and father education
status, social media sharing tools used and their frequency, editting before sharing
photos onto social media platforms, and asking for the opinion of those around them
before sharing the photos. The 'Social Appearance Anxiety Scale' (SAAS) was used to
measure the social appearance anxiety levels of adolescents. The 'Locus of Control
Scale' was used to measure the orientation of their perception of control area.
The data collected with the scales were transferred to a computerised
environment and the SPSS 22 package program was used for analysis. Descriptive
statistical tests; Frequency, standard error, percentage distributions, arithmetic mean
and standard deviation values were examined. The data were examined by means of
tests, the values of kurtosis and skewness, and the homogeneity of the data. Since a
homogeneous distribution could not be obtained, the analysis was continued with
nonparametric tests. Logistic Binary Regression analysis was conducted to look at the
predictive effect of social media use on adolescents' perceptions of social appearance
anxiety and control space. Spearman correlation test was applied to examine the
relationship between social appearance anxiety and perception of control area. To
examine whether independent variables make a difference on dependent variables;
Mann Whitney U analysis was applied for the variables with 2 categories, and the
Kruskal - Wallis analysis was applied for the variables with more than 2 categories.
According to the research findings, the use of social media in adolescents
predicts social appearance anxiety and perception of control area. It was concluded
that as the perception of external control increase, social appearance anxiety levels
also increase, adolescents' social media use is high, the users are competent, their social
appearance anxiety is at an average level, and they have a high amount of external
control area perception. In addition, it was concluded that as the time spent on social
media increased, social appearance anxiety and perception of external control
increased, and people who edit their photos before uploading them had more social
appearance anxiety and perception of external control compared to those who did not.
