dc.description.abstractThis study aims to research foreign based words transferred to our language during Covid-19 pandemic. The study captures a yearly period between 2020-2021 aiming to find pandemic related terms that has taken place in Havadis newspaper by going through their own archive. Turkish Cypriots used the same pandemic related terms as the other countries during this worldwide pandemic. This study is based on quantitative research methodology. Data are analyzed to answer two main questions. Firstly, “What are the most frequently used pandemic words in Havadis newspaper between 2020-2021? Secondly, “When did each word first appear in Havadis newspaper? This study took off by scanning pandemic related words from Havadis newspaper’s archive. Covid-19 was a global pandemic which affected the whole world. Due to the pandemic, lockdowns were put in place all over the world and during the lockdowns the only means of news source was the online media. Hence, those who brought foreign news to the Turkish Cypriot media borrowed the Covid-19 related relevant vocabulary. The use of media during Covid-19, caused pandemic related words to diffuse into our language as well as other languages.. dc.description.abstractBu çalışma, Covid-19 pandemi döneminde, dilimize yerleşen yabancı kökenli kelimeleri araştırmayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma, pandemi döneminde 2020-2021 yılları arasında, 1 yılık süreyi esas alarak KKTC basınında yer alan yabancı kökenli pandemi terimlerinin Havadis Gazetesi arşivi üzerinden araştırılmasıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Tüm dünyayı etkileyen pandemi sürecinde, Kıbrıslı Türkler de tüm dünyayla aynı terimleri kullanmıştır. Bu çalışma, nicel yöntem üzerine kurulmuştur. Veriler, temel iki soruyu yanıtlamak üzere analiz edilmiştir. İlk olarak; “2020-2021 yılları arasında, Havadis Gazetesi’nde en çok kullanılan pandemi kelimeleri nelerdir? İkinci olarak; “Her sözcük Havadis Gazetesi’nde ilk olarak ne zaman kullanılmıştır? soruları ile araştırma yapılmıştır. Çalışma, Havadis Gazetesi’nin arşivinden pandemi terimleri taranarak yapılmıştır. Covid-19 tüm dünyayı etkileyen küresel bir pandemiydi. Pandemi nedeniyle dünya genelinde evlere kapanma uygulamaları gerçekleşti ve bu evlere kapanma döneminde tek haber kaynağı dijital medyaydı. Böylece yabancı haberleri Kıbrıs Türk medyasına getiren kaynaklar Covid-19 ile ilgili yabancı kelimeleri de dilimize getirdiler. Covid-19’un medya kullanımını artırması, Covid-19 terimlerinin diğer dillerde olduğu gibi Türkçeye de girmesine neden oldu. Anahtar Kelimeler: Covid-19, Pandemi, Küresel Köy, Havadis Gazetesi, KKTC.
