Abstract
As one of the most prominent types of renewable energy, wind energy has become increasingly popular around the world. Investment in this sector is highly reasonable and sustainable since it can provide a continuous and stable energy source to produce limitless electricity with no air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions. Wind turbines use an electromechanical mechanism based on generator rotation to convert wind kinetic energy to electricity. The current study investigated various wind turbine (WT) types, focusing on their blade materials, applications, characteristics and manufacturing processes. In addition, in this research, relevant literature were reviewed, and progresses in the blades of wind turbines in different sectors were comprehensively assessed through the classification of previous studies and combining numerical and analytical studies. This overview explores various types of WT blades and the factors that influence their efficiency, which can assist in enhancing WT design and performance. The findings of this review suggest that one developed turbine (which boasts the advantages of being lightweight, highly efficient and low-noise) with a greater capacity can replace several smaller turbines. © 2024 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.
