The Short Term Stock Market Reactions to Covid-19 Outbreak in Casablanca Stock Exchange

Abstract

After nearly a decade of growth and high performance, the Casablanca Stock Exchange has gone through a difficult period of recession since the spread of the new coronavirus pandemic the Covid-19. This investigation evaluates the short-term performance of the Casablanca Stock Exchange, by considering the effect of the Covid-19 first case declaration in Morocco. The study is based on the event study methodology, considering data from the 6th of August 2019 to the 27th of April 2020. The empirical results, reveal the significant negative response of the Casablanca Stock Market to the outbreak, over the 6 months estimation window. Bu inceleme, Fas'taki Covid-19 ilk vaka bildiriminin etkisini dikkate alarak Kazablanka Menkul Kıymetler Borsası'nın Kısa vadeli performansını değerlendirmektedir. Çalışma, 6 Ağustos 2019'dan 27 Nisan 2020'ye kadar olan verileri dikkate alan olay çalışması metodolojisine dayanmaktadır. Ampirik sonuçlar, Kazablanka Borsasının 6 aylık tahmin penceresi boyunca salgına verdiği önemli tepkiyi ortaya koymaktadır.
