Abstract

This chapter aims to discuss strategic diversity management (DM) in hospitality and tourism (H&T). Although critically important, strategic diversity management (SDM) is among the marginalized topics in the hospitality literature that needs further elaboration. Despite the presence of some evidence on this topic such as the relevance of a diverse workforce to organizational outcomes, rarely available is a general argument that comprehensively defines SDM and highlights how it may assist hospitality firms in gaining and maintaining a competitive advantage. This chapter explores significant strategic diversity issues in the domain of hospitality and discusses SDM and highlights how strategic DM may assist hospitality firms in gaining and maintaining a competitive advantage. Finally, this chapter delineates several key conclusions and provides recommendations for practice and future research. © 2024 selection and editorial matter, Ashokkumar Manoharan, Juan M.
