Abstract
The aim of this study is to compare the European Convention on Nationality, which includes the contemporary principles regarding the law of citizenship, with the law of the TRNC in terms of acquisition of citizenship. Within this framework, to what extend the principles provided under the Convention is included into the citizenship law of the TRNC is examined. While examining the mentioned principles, both the Citizenship Act No. 25/93 and the Draft Act of Citizenship is considered. The similarities and the differences between the rules of the European Convention on Nationality and the citizenship law of the TRNC regulating the acquisiton of citizenship are studied. The Citizenship Act No. 25/93 and the Draft Act of Citizenship are separately analyzed and compared with the European Convention on Nationality. The study focused both on the rules which are in force and the proposed rules while discussing how the ways of acquisition of citizenship must be regulated.
