Abstract

Unlike traditional cellular networks, little attention has been given to solve the problem of wireless channels allocation in cellular networks with mobile base stations (MBSs). Due to the mobility of base stations in such networks, network topology becomes highly dynamic. Consequently, cochannel interference range and channel reuse pattern are not static. This makes the problem of channels allocation more challenging. In this paper, a distributed algorithm is proposed to solve the problem of allocating channels to inter-base station communication links, which are called backbone links, and to base station to mobile node communication links, which are called short-hop links. One comprehensive set of wireless channels is used for both types, to achieve higher channel utilization. The proposed algorithm is dynamic and dead-lock free. It also employs the principles of distributed mutual exclusion.
