Abstract

This study presents a unique framework for stormwater management in subtropical Australia, leveraging green hydrogen technology. As urbanization and climate change pose increasing challenges, traditional stormwater management systems struggle to maintain sustainability, resilience, and efficiency. Our proposed framework integrates green hydrogen technology with stormwater management, creating a system that not only addresses these challenges but also contributes to the renewable energy sector. Green hydrogen, produced by electrolyzing water using renewable energy sources, provides a sustainable, adaptable, and efficient solution for stormwater management. This chapter details the framework’s development, components, and implementation steps, and provides a thorough analysis of its environmental, economic, and social benefits. A case study from a subtropical region in Australia illustrates the practical implications of the framework, demonstrating its potential to significantly reduce carbon emissions, improve water quality, and enhance urban resilience. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the challenges, limitations, and future research directions, highlighting the framework's potential to usher in a new era of sustainable urban water management. This study aims to provide a scalable and replicable model that can inform policy, guide urban planning, and inspire further innovation in the integration of renewable energy and water management. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
