Abstract

The year 2015 marked the transformation of the then Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which officially metamorphosed into the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Following this development, the United Nations (UN) initiated a resolution to birth sustainable development agendas that are expected to last till 2030, thereby establishing universal goals and 169 targets (Lim et al. 2016). Regarded as the most ambitious effort to improve human wellbeing to date (Agarwal 2018), the SDGs which are expected to last another fifteen years (2030) from commencement provided a more comprehensive framework to the MDGs (Liu et al. 2016). Because of the great potential that the SDGs were said to have to bring social, economic, and sustainable development, much enthusiasm accompanied the birth of the SDGs era as the campaign was kicked off with a motto that strongly suggested that no one would be left behind in this new era (Kim 2017). © 2024 Andrew Adewale Alola, Festus Victor Bekun and Uju Violet Alola.
