Abstract

Real time vehicle detection and driver warning system using computer vision is discussed. Images captured from surveillance cameras are used to detect vehicles in a parking area, by employing the background subtraction method where each frame is subtrated from the reference frame. Parking camera systems are widely used to detect vehicles in a parking area to count or classify them. Different techniques such as magnetic loop, fiber optic and microwave detectors have been widely applied to detect vehicles. Image processing techniques are proving to be popular as they are also used in other applications including traffic security and safety, queue detection and estimating vehicle's speed. The performance of the suggested algorithm mainly depends on the detection and correct classification of vehicles. The suggested algorithm was applied to warn the detected vehicles that were parked automatically.
