Abstract

Historically, reinforcement of concrete with a single type of fiber has so far been successfully used and potentially affects the overall performance of concrete. However, there is still room to improve knowledge on the use of different type of fibers or proper combination leading to modified mechanical properties of concrete. This research investigated the modified characteristics on the mechanical properties of hybrid fiber reinforced concrete (HyFRC) which incorporated different percentages of steel fiber, polypropylene fiber and steel-polypropylene combination. The properties measured include compressive strength, flexural strength, toughness energy and impact energy. The results show that the hybrid forms of fiber has superior performance compared to a single type fiber reinforced concrete.
