Abstract

In the 24 April 2004 referenda on the Cyprus peace plan, 65% of the Turkish Cypriots voted Yes while 76% Greek Cypriots voted No. Subsequently, the international community has failed to end the isolation of the Turkish Cypriots as it promised in the pre-referenda period. It was against this background that on 20 February 2005 the Turkish Cypriot electorate went to the polls in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus's eighth legislative election. The election results clearly indicate that the Turkish Cypriots are still committed to the Annan Plan and EU membership. © 2005 Taylor & Francis.
