Positioning in cellular networks is one of the most important features of the 3G wireless communication systems. Many location based services can be empowered and inspired by this new feature. All location estimation techniques based on cellular system signals, are implementing trigonometric computation methods which are sophisticated and need several processing clocks, hence, higher computation cost and power consumption. In this paper, we propose a new hybrid algorithm that uses simple add, shift and subtract operations, so is appropriate to be implemented in hardware. The simulation results show improvements of our proposed algorithm in implementation simplicity with reasonable location finding accuracy compared to the traditional methods. © 2011 IEEE.
