Abstract

This paper deals with the official jersey manufacturers in the football/soccer industry, investigating the current jersey manufacturers, as of 31 January 2012, of 1061 football/soccer clubs in 72 countries' top leagues worldwide. The football/soccer industry is growing. As the football/soccer industry grows, industries within the industry grow as well. The increase in the popularity of football/soccer has increased the interest of jersey manufacturers. The jersey industry is a growing industry and has become an important type of revenue source for football/soccer clubs. The popularity of the jersey industry has attracted sports manufacturers to sponsor and supply sports apparels and equipment to football/soccer clubs. This leads to an increase in competition in the industry. As competition grows, jersey manufacturers strive to increase their market share and profits from the growing pie. As a result of developments in the jersey industry, jersey manufacturers must be investigated and analysed. © 2012 Taylor & Francis.
