This article relates technological issues to tectonics in architecture and to philosophy. Technological issues are about the structural systems. Tectonics in architecture is included by studying the architectural examples of those structural systems. Philosophy is also included to the article through the concept of ontology. The target is to find the ontological differences between structural systems.en_US
The main aim of this study is to discuss the ontology of contemporary construction by considering the recent developments in structures. For this purpose, contemporary transparent surfaces of suspended glass systems are considered. These systems are compared with the framed structures of the modern, and Gothic structures in order to discuss the ontological differences between them. The three systems are compared according to the number of structural systems in the building, the type of structural materials, the ratio of transparent surfaces, the existence of perceivable deflection in each system, the elementary or non-elementary nature of the structure , the existence of small details at the joints, and the existence of ornamentation.en_US
