dc.description.abstractWe discuss a novel source-theoretical description of the STM based on the concepts of quantum-mechanical scattering theory. As an application of the formalism, we study how the presence of a crystalline adsorbate layer alters the tunneling current for a simplified one-dimensional surface model.en_US
