Abstract

Compared to the conventional Z-source inverter (ZSI) and switched boost inverter (SBI) topologies, high voltage gain switched Z-source inverter (SZSI) is a novel topology with improved advantages such as high voltage gain and continuous input current amplitude which are required in the connection of renew able energy sources. This study presents a mathematical modeling and analysis of the SZSI and introduces a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) sliding mode control (SMC) method to generate modulation signal and shoot trough duty ratio for controlling the output voltage of the SZSI at the same time. In the proposed SMC method, sliding functions are designed using the difference of only one variable which eliminates using derivative operations on the contrary of the conventional SMC methods. Simulation results are presented to verify the theoretical considerations and performance of the proposed control method.
