Real time detection and tracking of vehicles for speed measurement and licence plate detection

Abstract

In this paper a real time automatic system for the detection and tracking of vehicles is proposed. The proposed system measures the speed of the vehicles and captures the image containing the license plate number of the over speeding vehicles. The system uses frame difference and background removal operations to detect the moving object in a real time video sequence. The introduced system works in real time and gives an average of %97.41 and %97.17 for the correct speed measurement for interframe difference and background removal approaches respectively.
