| dc.description.abstract | Over hundred construction sites of residential houses, apartments and industrial buildings were visited to collect comprehensive data for identifying inadequacies in civil engineering design and construction, particularly those related to the load carrying system of the structures, in North Cyprus. Mistakes can be classified into groups, such as, wrong detailing, inexperienced labourers and using wrong foundation types due to lack of soil investigation. Observations from these construction sites are detailed and recommendations for improving or overcoming these problems are included. These recommendations are expected to minimize the inadequacies and contribute to the healthy development of construction industry. | |
