| dc.description.abstract | In the first chapter of the thesis, detailed information regarding the focus of the thesis is provided. In the second chapter of the thesis, the moderating role of digitalization with innovation, renewable energy, and financial development on environmental sustainability is examined. The findings from the Generalized Methods of Moments (GMM) method show that digitalization, innovation, renewable energy, and financial development are negatively correlated with environmental degradation. A key result of the study is that digitalization and its interplay with innovation, renewable energy, and financial development demonstrate footprint-mitigating effects. Considering these findings, the integration of digitalization and environmental policies may lead to more resilient outcomes and enhanced environmental quality in contrast to the implementation of a solitary policy in isolation. In the third chapter, the impact of renewable energy sources on the displacement of fossil fuels for 36 OECD countries. The findings demonstrate a discernible trend in the replacement of fossil fuels by renewable energy sources. More specifically, an average increase of 1.4 units of renewable energy is mandated to displace one unit of fossil fuel energy. Additionally, a one-to-one displacement of fossil fuels occurs with hydropower. The results indicate that the energy transition in OECD nations is currently in progress, with renewable energy sources making significant strides towards supplanting fossil fuels. The fourth chapter of the thesis focuses on the the determinants that influence the demand for renewable energy in the United States over the period 1987-2021. In pursuit of this objective, the factors that are industrial production, non-renewable energy prices and climate policy uncertainty are considered. The empirical results suggest that industrial production, non-renewable energy, and climate policy uncertainty have positive impact on the use of renewable energy. As a result, the findings from the study help to facilitate policymakers in formulating appropriate policies for the transition towards clean energy to combat the adverse effects of climate change.
