Abstract

In this paper, a PI-type self-tuning fuzzy control (STFC) strategy is presented for a dc-dc boost converter. The STFC strategy tunes the output gain on-line by using an updating factor that is generated by using a second rule base. The tuning process is made according to the current trend of the controlled converter. The second rule base for tuning the output gain is defined on error and its derivative (change of error) of the controlled variable using membership functions. In order to show the validity of the STFC, the closed-loop system has been simulated against step changes in the load. The results obtained by the STFC approach are compared with those obtained by conventional fuzzy controller (FC) method in terms of several performance measures such as overshoot and settling time. An experimental study is also presented to support the theoretical considerations.
