Abstract
With the advent of generative AI technologies, especially ChatGPT, the travel and tourism sector is poised for a significant technological and structural change. This transformative technology has demonstrated unprecedented adoption rates in the business world, reshaping how tourism organizations operate, communicate, and deliver services to their customers. Generative AI has significant operational advantages throughout the tourism value chain. Sophisticated chatbots that can manage reservations, provide individualized travel advice, and offer round-the-clock customer care in several languages are beneficial to front-office operations. Automated document management, data analysis, and content production streamline back-office operations. However, the implementation of Generative AI in tourism is not without significant challenges. Technical drawbacks include the possibility of producing false information and cybersecurity flaws that can jeopardize client information or result in brand impersonation. At a deeper level, there are worries about how the technology may affect the social fabric of travel experiences. Tourists may become more isolated and cultural interactions may become less authentic if human interaction in travel experiences declines. The effects of this technological change on the workforce are very significant too. Generative AI may eventually result in major changes in employment patterns, especially in sectors like content creation, customer service, and administrative responsibilities, even though it initially improves staff capabilities. The tourism industry's job responsibilities and skill requirements must be fundamentally rethought in light of this shift, which places more emphasis on human-machine cooperation than replacement. In the future, striking a careful balance between automation and human interaction will be essential to the success of generative AI in the travel industry. In order to preserve the authenticity and interpersonal connection that are essential to travel experiences, tourism organizations must create implementational tactics that complement human talents rather than replacing them. In a world that is becoming more digitally connected, this calls for both technological know-how and a thorough comprehension of consumer demands and preferences. 4th Communication in the Digital Age Symposium /18 The study suggested that, stakeholders of tourism such as policymakers, industry representatives, and educational institutions must cooperate in order to get ready for this change. This entails establishing regulations that safeguard employees and customers while promoting innovation, developing new educational frameworks that prioritize digital literacy and human-machine interaction, and formulating moral standards for the application of AI. Instead of total automation, the future of tourism will be in the careful blending of AI skills with human knowledge and emotional intelligence. Therefore, this study takes a comprehensive approach in an attempt to understand the changes taking place in tourism field as a result of increasing generative AI role in individual tourism activities, hotel operations, and managerial functions.
