The aim of this paper is to present a method to identify the best item in a dataset. This is done through performing a comparative analysis between two different procedures of information gain and apriori algorithm. The former is a method used in data mining and the latter is used in decision making .A software is designed and developed for the implementation of both information gain and apriori algorithm which helps in choosing the best item by comparing the final results obtained from each method. The common attribute obtained through the comparison of the results of the two methods is then chosen as the best item.
