Modern architecture evolved in begining of 20th century to create appropriate solutions to the upcoming problems of the industrial revolution, which changed the social orders, economic and every aspect of the world. Modernism adopted many rules and ideas that were new to and theory of architecture and the accepted architectural styles were replaced by a new understanding based on function. This architectural movement, which developed after the First World War, is also known as the International Style. Basically, the tendency towards simple forms, simplicity and lack of ornamentation, and the absence of historical elements are the main features of this style. The concept of modernity deeply affected the world of architecture and this style was adopted in many practices in all around the world. With Cyprus closely following the West at that time, it was a colony of British Empire (1878-1960) and the effects of modern architecture began to manifest themselves on the island. Along with the multicultural social structure, political, economic and technological developments in Cyprus, some changes are also observed in tourism structures, which are the main source of income of the island. The architectural structures where we can clearly observe the reflections of the change in question are hotel buildings, which are the main source of income for the island of Cyprus. The study focuses on the hotel building in Varosha in Cyprus. Accordingly, the aim of the research is to understand the modern architecture in Cyprus, its changes and effects by examining and analysing the hotel buildings constructed in Varosha, Famagusta which was the most important tourism area of the that time. 22 accessible hotel buildings built between 1950-1974, when the effects of modernism began to be seen in Cyprus. During the period until the closure of Varosha, were examined, taking into account the Cypriot architecture in general. The effects of modern architecture on the facade are analysed based on basic criteria such as form and shape, material, building structure, color, ornamentation, roof type, balcony and openings. As a result of the study, the effects of modern architecture have shown a significant effect on hotel buildings. Besides, it is possible to come across the basic elements that give Cyprus architecture its identity. The use of arches, wood and brick as materials were continued and as a modern architecture; the minimalist style, intensive use of concrete and steel materials, building structure used into decorative elements and the have contributed to the architecture of Cyprus. dc.description.abstractModern mimari, dünyanın sosyal, ekonomik ve her yönüyle değiştiren sanayi devriminin yeni kaygılarına uygun çözümler bulmak için bir asırdan daha uzun bir süre önce gelişti.
