Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) in Pakistan Stock Exchange: The Underpricing and the Long-Term Underperformance Anomalies

Abstract

This study uses the event study approach to analyze the short- and long-term performance of the IPOs of Octopus Digital and Airlink Communication on the Pakistan Stock Exchange from 2021 to 2024. The study examines the impact of the initial public offering announcement on the stock prices of these two companies over a short-term event window of 20 days as well as a long-term event window of 2.5 years. The empirical results show underpricing in the short-term and underperformance in the long term, which is consistent with previously found empirical results in both developing and developed countries Keywords: initial public offering, short run, long run, event study, underpricing, abnormal returns, Pakistan stock exchange

Bu çalışma, Octopus Digital ve Airlink Communication'un Pakistan Borsa'sındaki halka arzlarının kısa ve uzun dönem performansını analiz etmek için olay çalışması yaklaşımını kullanmaktadır. Çalışma, bu iki şirketin hisse senedi fiyatları üzerindeki halka arz duyurusunun etkisini 20 günlük kısa dönem olay penceresi ile 2,5 yıllık uzun dönem olay penceresi boyunca incelemektedir.
