Abstract
This study aims to analyze the views of students on the blended learning program implemented in English as a foreign language for the freshmen students at the faculties where the Medium of instruction is Turkish in the School of Foreign Languages, at Eastern Mediterranean University, to identify the problems they encounter in the learning process and to make recommendations to resolve the problems. This research study was designed as a case study. The participants included 383 students, who voluntarily participated in the study among the freshmen students at Turkish Medium programs, taking compulsory English courses as a foreign language. In the study, quantitative data were obtained through a scale, and qualitative data were obtained through interview questions. While quantitative data were analyzed through SPSS, qualitative data were thematically coded and subjected to content analysis. The triangulated findings revealed that students have positive attitudes towards internet portal and face-to-face courses in the program. While the internet portal promoted students’ language learning in terms of providing opportunities to promote their responsibility, autonomy and self-evaluation, and motivation, face-to-face lessons encouraged students’ active participation and interaction with teachers and peers. The findings also revealed limitations encountered with regard to technical problems, lack of student motivation and time constraint. At the end of the study, suggestions were made to resolve the problems. Keywords: blended Learning, English language program, internet portal, face-to-face classes
