Abstract

In this thesis, a genetic algorithm (GA) based optimization is used to increase the voltage stability of a power network employing Distributed Generation (DG) Units. GA determines the best placements for DG Units in the power network. The number and sizes of DGs utilized are likewise calculated using the specified method. First, the backward/forward sweep method has been tweaked to enable for analysis of the iterative process' convergence. Then, rectified the issue without the use of GA has been applied. The key rationale for adopting GA to tackle the problem is that, given the quantity and size of DGs, determining the ideal locations for them might be quite difficult and time intensive. An index termed objective indices, which indicates the power flow and voltage deviation of the power network, is proposed to evaluate and compare the possible options. The bus voltages, and hence the network's VI, are determined using a Forward/Backward load flow. Moreover, by weight factors method (WF), because of the approach utilized, all WFs have an equal probability of influencing the output of the objective function, making them unified and dimensionless. As a result, by considering the number of buses affected by voltage sag has been considered to mitigate the voltage sag and enhancing voltage amplitudes in a radial distribution system. The findings imply that using DGs enhances the voltage stability of the network. Furthermore, because GA is an optimization algorithm, it may discover the best solution for the issue in terms of the number, size, and position of DGs after a given number of iterations. The thesis finishes with the best solution to the problem as well as the load flow data for the ideal condition.
