Özel İlgi Turizmi Kapsamında Kumar Turizminin Etkileri: KKTC Örneği

Abstract

Günümüzde özel ilgi turizminin büyük paydaşlardan biri olan kumarhane turizminin ele alınması, bu sektördeki uygulamaları, yaşanılan sorunların ve zorluklarının ülke ekonomisine olan etkilerinin ve olası çözümlerin keşfedilmesi önemli bir katkı olacaktır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, (1) kumarhane turizminin küresel boyutta ülkeler üzerindeki sosyal, ekonomik ve çevresel etkileri ile karşılaşılan olumlu/olumsuz faktörlerin keşfedilmesidir. Ayrıca, (2) KKTC’deki kumarhane turizminin bir vaka çalışması olarak ele alınması buradaki olumlu/olumsuz faktörlerin keşfedilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu nedenle, bu tez iki çalışmadan oluşmaktadır: (1) Birinci çalışma, özel ilgi turizminin ana paydaşlarından biri olan kumarhane turizmine yönelik mevcut literatür üzerine sistematik bir inceleme çalışması yürütülmüştür. Kumarhane turizmine yönelik yapılmış mevcut literatür araştırma makaleleri taranmış, sistematik olarak kapsamına göre sınıflandırılmış ve irdelenmiştir. Bunun için, WoS ve Google Scholar gibi ana veri tabanlarında arama yapılmış, 2021 ve 2023 yılları arasında yayınlanmış toplam 2938 makale bulunmuş, bazı filtreleme adımlarından sonra en ilgili 21 adet makale incelenme kapsamına alınmak üzere çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Küresel boyutta kumarhane sektörünün mevcut uygulamaları, eksik konuları, zorluklarına dair olumlu/olumsuz faktörler tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Tezin ikinci çalışmasında: (2) KKTC’deki kumarhane turizmi üzerine bazı katılımcı gruplara mülakat soruları yöneltilerek bilgi toplama ve yorumlama süreci uygulanmıştır. Bu aşamada, 9 adet araştırma sorusu belirlenmiş ve bu sorular röportaj metodu ile 4 farklı katılımcı grubuna yöneltilmiştir. Katılımcılardan toplanan geri dönütler doğrultusunda, KKTC’deki kumarhane turizminin mevcut durumu, diğer sektörler ve halk üzerindeki etkisi, sektörü olumlu/olumsuz etkileyen faktörler vb. bilgilerin analizi üzerinde çalışılmıştır. İkinci aşamada, seçilen 4 katılımcı grubun görüşleri alınmıştır. Görüşler alınmadan önce, KKTC’deki kumar turizmi sektörünün mevcut yapılanması, işleyen kanallarının tespiti ve detaylı incelenme yapılmıştır. Küresel bazda, bu sektörde gözlemlenen mevcut zorluklar, açık konular ve potansiyel gelecekteki iyileşmeler hakkında tartışma ve öneriler son kısımda ele alınmıştır. Bu çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre, küresel bazda kumarhane turizmini etkileyen faktörlerin literatürdeki tespiti yapılıp, ayrıca yine KKTC örneklemi üzerinden sektörü etkileyen faktörler tartışılmıştır. KKTC’nin bir ada ülkesi olması bakımından, gelen turiste deniz-kum güneş üçlüsünün tüm ihtişamı ile sunabilmesinden, güvenlik ve suç oranlarının az olması nedeniyle güvenlik hissi vermesinden, ada içi hemen hemen her sektöre ekonomik katkısının olmasından, diğer ülke örneklerine nazaran kumarhane müşterilerine sunulan otel hizmet kalitesinin daha üstün olmasından vb. açılardan dolayı KKTC’deki kumar turizminin birçok olumlu etkisinin olduğu saptanmıştır. Bunun yanı sıra, KKTC’de müşteri memnuniyeti sağlamak için itibar, aidiyet, mahremiyet, güvenlik ve kaliteli hizmet vb. gereksinimler dahil olmak üzere, içsel ihtiyaçlarında karşılanması diğer gereksinimler olarak tespit edilmiş ve tartışılmıştır. Son olarak hem küresel boyutta hem de KKTC genelinde kumarhane turizminin evrimleşme sürecinin henüz başında olduğunu ve özellikle teknolojik açıdan yeniliklerle/gelişmelere ihtiyaç duyduğu belirtilebilir. In addition, the gains obtained from the literature were examined. It is aimed to consider casino tourism in the TRNC as a case study. Therefore, this study consists of two separate studies. : (1) The first study, a systematic review of the existing literature on casino tourism, one of the main stakeholders of special interest tourism, was conducted. Existing literature research articles on casino tourism were scanned, systematically classified and examined according to their scope. For this purpose, a total of 2938 articles were searched in the main databases such as WoS and Google Scholar, published between 2021 and 2023, and after some filtering steps, the most relevant 21 articles were included in the study to be included in the scope of review. It was tried to identify the positive / negative factors related to the current practices, deficiencies and difficulties of the casino sector on a global scale. After examining the gains obtained from the literature, the second study of this thesis was started.(2) Information collection and interpretation process was applied by asking research questions to some participant groups on casino tourism in the TRNC. At this stage, 9 interview questions were determined, and these questions were directed to 4 different participant groups by interview method. In line with the feedback collected from the participants, the analysis of information such as the current situation of casino tourism in the TRNC, its impact on other sectors and the public, factors affecting the sector positively/negatively were studied. In this second stage, the 4 participating groups were selected. Before that the current structure of the gambling tourism sector in the TRNC, the determination and detailed examination of the functioning channels were made. Discussion and recommendations on the current challenges, open issues and potential future improvements observed in this sector on a global basis are discussed in the last section. According to the results of this study, the factors affecting casino tourism on a global basis are identified in the literature and the factors affecting the sector are also discussed through the TRNC case study. It has been found that gambling tourism in TRNC has many positive effects due to the fact that TRNC is an island country, it can offer the sea-sand-sun trio in all its splendor to the incoming tourists, it gives a sense of security due to low security and crime rates, it has an economic contribution to almost every sector within the island, the hotel service quality offered to casino customers is superior compared to other country examples, etc. In addition to this, it was identified and discussed that intrinsic needs need to be met in order to ensure customer satisfaction in TRNC, including needs for reputation, belonging, privacy, security and quality service etc. Finally, it can be stated that casino tourism, both globally and in the TRNC, is still at the beginning of the evolution process and needs innovations/developments, especially in terms of technology.
